This woman's liberation movement, started by a small group of five woman from India's Banda district, has now amalgamated to a brigade of over 40,000 woman and 10 district commanders vying for women's empowerment. Literally meaning "Pink Gang", these remarkable woman, clad in their brilliantly pink saris, travel from village to village, training woman in self-defense from domestic and sexual violence, shaming aggressors and abusive husbands, and organizing new gang branches for women to carry on their movement. With growing power, and gravitas, the Gulabi Gang (most of whom are from the lowest of the Cast System and deemed 'untouchables'), are now turning their focus to India's political spectrum; to fight against the rampant corruption found amongst police and politicians.
